Making a Decision and Committing to It

Hopefully by now you have some idea of what you're going to do. If you feel ready, it may be time to make a decision.

If you've gone through the steps, and if you've kept a journal, you should be able to make your decision with some degree of clarity and confidence. You will know that you are doing the best you can under the circumstances.

Life often puts us in situations where we have to make decisions we're not 100% certain of. It's natural to have doubts and second thoughts. If this happens to you, then read through your journal, and remember all the work and thought you've put into your decision.

Whatever your decision is, it is important that you feel it is your own. Now that it's time to carry through with your decision, think about the people around you. Who will support and help you? Who might try to change your mind? Seek out the people who will be there for you, and look for ways to minimize the influence of people who won't.

If you still don't know what you want to do, then you might consider talking to an options counsellor. With pregnancy, if you don't make a decision your decision will be made for you. For better or for worse, nature will take its course.

EXERCISE: Now that you've made your decision, make a things-to-do list of the next steps you'll be taking.
